Have you ever been a victim of a natural disaster?

Thankfully, I have never personally experienced the devastating impacts of a major natural disaster like a hurricane, tornado, earthquake or wildfire. The closest I've come was living through a particularly harsh winter storm that knocked out power for several days and left my neighborhood blanketed in deep snow.

I have never experienced any natural disaster before, and I really hope I don't get to experience anyone. I have seen a lot on TV and i see what a lot of people have gone through.

I live in a place where natural disasters are not common, well except for flooding sometimes. There's one time a heavy rainfall started and all my house and my compound was flooded. Thankfully the building did not collapse but we spent this packing away the water and cleaning the house.

I'm not 100% sure, but it could be that I experienced minor tremors at night and thought it was an earthquake, but no damage was done

The only time in my life there was a very strong hurricane, and then many people suffered, but not physically, but materially, because almost all the houses had no roof covering left. Everyone had to spend money on a new roof

That must have been a terrible experience, I'm so sorry to hear that. Hope the government came to your head and provide relief for you? And I hope that you have been able to renovate the buildings that were affected?

@Nomad Was it recent?

Yes, a few years ago, lots of people in Nepal were killed due to frequent earthquakes in a week. I remember it happened after a year when the infamous Kedarnath tragedy happened.

No, I had never been the victim of a natural disaster in my life.

It must be so worrying to live in places that are constantly at risk of natural disasters like earthquakes. In my country we don't usually experience.

No, that was in 2015. I remember the Kedarnath incident. It was such a tragedy. Earthquakes are still common here. The last one occurred a couple of months ago and over 50 people were killed and hundreds of houses were destroyed.. They say tectonic plates are moving, so earthquakes are becoming frequent.

The Kedarnath disaster happened in 2013, and the Nepal disaster occurred in 2015. Many of my colleagues who were from Bihar were worried because they were on high alert at that time. That was one of the worst disasters in Nepal, I guess.

Oh wow, where you the only one who experienced this or did others in your area also experience it.

It most likely will be everyone that experienced it. The impact of an earthquake is not small to not be felt by people.

Well, I have not been affected by natural disaster, but I was once trapped in earthquake zone. There were so many tremors that I had to live in a yard for a couple of days but thankfully our property wasn't damaged and nothing happened to the family.

Wow, that must have been a terrible experience for you. It is a good thing that your property was not affected, and nobody was hurt. Hopefully you won't have to experience such a thing again.

I am fortunate to live in a country where there are minimal natural disasters. In fact I can say they are nonexistent, safe for rare occasions of flood.

We live in the same country then. Natural disasters are generally considered a strange phenomenon over here.

No one would like to live in such places. I am thankful that I didn't take birth in Japan, where earthquakes are so frequent.

My parents sometimes talk about floods that we have experienced many years ago but I must have been quite small at that time as I don't remember anything about it

In Delhi, we have never faced a flood situation, though Yamuna is very near our place. It has happened many times that the river flowed above the danger level in the rainy season, but we never had a flood situation here.
