Music Has music declined?

The beauty of music is that it lives on forever so you can listen to whatever era of music you want to listen to. However, is the current era of music worse than previous eras? Has music declined?

Not to be nostalgic but I think music has definitely declined. The quality of music and artists is much lower than it’s ever been. Good new music is very rare nowadays.

Honestly I feel like the 20's music has improved, since most music is going back to that awesome classic house style. I feel like the 2010's had the worse style of music though, I'm not a fan of club or rap music and that's mainly what was popular during this decade. There was some good bands like Men I Trust that came out, but they definitely not mainstream back then.

Yes. I no longer listen to current music unless it is by someone I already like. The music of the last 30 years is boring.

Maybe, but I think it's important to do a fair comparison. The only old music that's known or remembered today is the best stuff that's been able to stand the test of time (there was lousy music in every era, but all the lousy old stuff has been forgotten). I predict that only the best of today's songs will still be listened to in 50 years' time - and, our not-yet-born grandchildren will be pointing at those songs and saying "See, music was so much better in the early 21st century!".

With that being said, there are things I dislike about many modern hits, that simply aren't present in older ones. For example, a lot of modern songs all feel very formulaic and 'refined', like they came off an assembly line - whereas many older songs (even the not very good ones) still felt like they had someone's heart and soul poured into them!

I'm mostly an 80's music enjoyer, for me it's the best decade, compared to what we have now.. but i think tastes change from time to time in the masses.

I feel like the music i listen to will be dead by 2040 or so. Nobody will know about it.

I feel like it has. The uprise in autotuned songs and artists re-using or 're-sampling' others work before them, usually stuff from the 80's and 90's, music has definitely declined and you don't even need to have any musical talent to 'make it big' as a musical artist it seems.

This!! So much auto tune is also used nowadays, there’s nowhere near as much talent or heart anymore.

I think a lot of good music isn't being played on the radio. Well, that's the case in the US. Anyway, it just doesn't seem the same as before 2000, but I might have a closed-minded bias.

Yes, 100%! Music no longer hold much values like it used to 30 years ago. Most music now only have ladies showing themselves half naked like what Beyoncé, Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj are doing.

I know exactly what you have in mind and it's sad that this modern day generation music have been nothing but a disgrace. I was watching Ice Spice performance last night and she didn't wear any panty on stage to perform. It was very disgusting.

That's exactly it, Spencer. Style and image over content and talent. Where is today's equivalent of 'Yesterday', 'Hey Jude', 'He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother', 'Nights In White Satin', 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' or 'Dancing Queen'? No songs from the last 30 years will be as fondly loved, remembered or respected as classics. The last classic was 'The Living Years'.

The music is one word or two words sorry I mean a sentence or two sentences that they repeat the music means it has lost its value and they speak about something bad in life in RAP they encourage teenagers to bad habits like going outside illegally to European countries or consume drugs, this is the bad fact of music nowadays.

The challenge is that the internet and social media have given voice to both the real musicians and those who are trying to sing. A lot of tasteless music are being promoted, and some of them are even placed ahead of good music that are out there.

So, it has been a real struggle for music fans to truly grab the real ones from those faking it. Personally, when I want to listen to good music, I go with classic songs.

This is indeed true Henry writes. The first thing that classic music talks about is something meaningful in life. The new songs don't take things seriously. Most of them are about love between two persons that doesn't seem to be a serious subject.

I wouldn't say music has necessarily declined overall, but the industry has certainly undergone major transformative changes in recent decades. The rise of streaming and digital distribution has disrupted traditional business models, leading to both positives and negatives.

We still have music going on in this generation, but I have to agree with you that it is reducing in quality day by day. The musicians just dish out whatever comes out their mind without filtering it, and the sad thing is that most people still consider it to be good enough to vibe to.

I find myself listening to music from the 60's 70's and 80's all the time. The radio station that I have on a lot plays "oldies". It has been at least a year since anything new released has been worth listening to.

I highly doubt this, though I don't listen to music all that often, but the rate at which others stream musics are still on the high side, especially music of their favorite artist.
