Yes, that's what I used if I remember correctly. I liked it a lot more than Buddypress!
 
I have used wordpress plugin to create forums multiple times. In fact the first forum I ever created was through a wordpress plugin. I like wordpress powered forums, they are easy to set and easy to run. However, they lack extensive features that a normal forum software like xneforo or phpBB offer.

Yes agreed! Wordpress is okay, but a bit bloated for my taste.
