Debate Are you cynical about idealism?

Jayson
The music group Steely Dan wrote a song called "Only a Fool Would Say That" mocking John Lennon and maybe others. One line goes like this "Talking about a world where all is free; it just couldn't be, and only a fool would say that. 🤡😀".

Do you agree with the lyrics? Well, my view is in the middle as, while I have a heart and hope, I'm also realistic, and I don't like being talked down to by hypocrites.

I think Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World is a more down to earth song about idealism.

Expecting a world where everything is free will be asking for too much if you ask me. People tend to take for granted things they got for free, so they won't ascribe much importance to practically everything, because they are free.
That's an excellent point. People are spoiled for sure.

I agree, there is notting free in this world. To get something we have to pay a certain price or make certain sacrifices for it.
So is that a good or bad thing?

Hmmm the answer is abit complicated, I think is both good and bad. It's good in the sense that we would tend to value whatever we get. Most times when we get something completely free without any stress, we tend to not give it enough value. But when it comes to something you paid for, am pretty sure you would value it. Then it's bad because there are certain things you might need but it is beyond your reach simply because it's not free. So it all boils down to how you view it.

Nothing is free in Freetown. I believe that nothing can be gotten free at all in any way. If you cherish something, there's no way you will be take it for granted.
