When David warner announced his retirement from test cricket, instead of going for an established opening batsman, Australia Pushed Steve Smith to open the Innings and till now he hasn't done anything good and now many ex cricketers including Mathew Hayden is criticising this move.

I also disliked this move and was not happy with it as they could have sent some other person on the top instead of smudge

Rahul Dravid has opened too so they must have thought on the same lines and were not willing to add a new player in the team

I also didn't like this move, they must have not have asked him to open the innings. Sometimes players don't perform on the position which we like him to. The management should understand this.

It was like kohli was sent to open in T20 World cup but then kohli was experienced about it as he has done that in the IPL too

Australia does not like to change its winning combination and that's why they persisted with Smith and added Green in the lower middle order as he can bat and bowl medium pace
