How do directors approach adapting books into movies?

A lot of movies are adapted form books? Some movie makers manage to do justice to the book, where as some movie makers take a lot of creative liberty. Adapting books requires striking a balance between fidelity to the source material and the constraints of the visual medium. Directors must capture the essence of the story while making necessary adjustments for cinematic storytelling. Do you enjoy movies adapted from books?

In my opinion, most of the movies adapted from the book are incorrect and very unrealistic, because the directors do not want to do everything as it was in the book, because they think that it will be boring, and that's why they change a lot of moments. It's fun to watch, but it's not always done truthfully

One reason why most movie adaptation of books fail is cause the writers tend to shift too far from the source material. They try to be more creative, cause the truth of the matter is that most times it's almost impossible to give viewers the exact same thing from the book, especially due to the limited time films have. In trying to be creative, they end up doing something totally alien from the book.

No matter how many such films I watch, many films still have many gaps between the plot in the book. I have not yet seen such a film that was 100 percent based on the events in the book and that the director did not make any changes
