Some are suggesting that Putin is waiting to see the results of the US election before anything happens on a ceasefire front. Can Ukraine hold out for another few months? Would a change in leadership in the US affect the war between Russia and Ukraine?

It does not seem to be ending any soon. The war has gone for too long than it was expected. It has been few years and even the US intervention has not worked so far. In fact, it directly or indirectly aggravated it. Putin is not going soft irrespective of any leader in the US. The war has to come to an end soon, but we don't see it coming. Not only the two sides have suffered a lot. It has badly impacted the world in some or the other way.

Yeah. There was a school of thought that Putin was biding his time until Trump was in power as it was expected Trump would pull US support and that would be game over for Ukraine. But now Putin as backed Harris. A strange move - or a shrewd one?

People keep switching sides when in politics. Nothing is like a permanent ally or moral grounds with a politician..it will keep fluctuating with the situation. Geopolitical and economic situations are not consistent. They keep changing and the entire geo political dynamics changes. The common men suffers.

With the look of things, I don't really see an end at the moment, but I guess we are all hoping things die down and peace comes up.

The two major wars going on right now don't seem to come at a conclusive end any soon as we would expect it to be. The conflict between Israel and Iran is also getting escalated.

Yeah, but this is the thing. People always accuse Trump of being weak on dictators and strong men. He responds to flattery. You would have envisaged Putin endorsing Trump, not Harris. So what's up with that?

Yes, one would have thought that way. Trump and Putin seemed to be in good terms. But then politics comes with many surprises. I don't hold any strong opinion about Trump. But for sure, during his regime, no wars erupted anywhere where there was direct or indirect involvement of the US.

Trump is a known, proven liar. Sure, no "formal" declarations of war were made during his singular term, but let's not pretend he wasn't comfortable with using the US military to achieve geopolitical aims:

At least 65 active duty troops died in hostile action in Trump’s presidency, the records show, as he ramped up commitments in Iraq and Syria to fight the ISIS terrorist group while also launching airstrikes on Syria as punishment for a chemical weapons attack. (During the town hall, Trump bragged, “We beat ISIS, knocked them out.”) Trump also escalated hostilities with Iran, including the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Trump said at the time the strike was carried out in accordance with the Authorization for Use of Military Force resolution of 2001.
